Deian is a shepherd in Tir Chonaill. Despite his desire to abandon his "dead-end" job and become a famous warrior, he has done little to make that dream a reality.
It could be said that he is graceless or even rude in his manner of speech, but as such is his typical tone of expression, it would be presumptuous to label him as a spiteful individual. He enjoys teasing Caitin about her weight, however.
His typical part-time job assignment involves shearing sheep and returning with 10 bundles of wool. Deian suggests doing this with a gathering knife, but many bladed items (i.e. swords and sickles) are just as effective at completing this task.
